BC Ski Team in Sweden - 2026 B-Tour
Wednesday March 18, 2026
What better way to wake up than to sunshine and clear blue skies? We began the morning with breakfast together in the campground cafeteria before gathering our ski gear and heading up to Hellnerstadion, the World Cup trails in Gällivare. The younger students from the Gällivare Ski Gymnasium guided us through a classic sprint session, which consisted of four laps of the sprint course with two sprints per lap. Although the weather was beautiful, a strong headwind made the sprints more challenging.
After training, we returned to our accommodation, showered and then went to the school for lunch. A buffet was served, featuring fried fish, boiled potatoes, and a variety of vegetables. By 13:00, we were back at the accommodation, packing our bags and loading the vans for the weekend ahead. With everything packed, we set off on a five and a half hour drive to Lycksele. Along the way, we stopped briefly for a traditional Swedish “fika.” While it usually includes coffee and a pastry, most of the team decided on a Kanelbulle, basically a cinnamon bun, from the gas station instead. We continued on to our accommodation, located about 40 minutes outside Lycksele. It’s a hostel-style space beneath a community center, complete with a pool, hot tub, gym, and sauna. Despite the limited space and furniture, we set up several air mattresses across the floor and made do with what we were given.
We ended the day by heating up our surprisingly good pre-made dinners from a restaurant in Gällivare. After such a long day, everyone was more than ready for an early night.

On day three we woke up the earliest we had and went to hop on the bus to visit the LKAB iron mine at Gallivare. It was really cool and we drove down a super large tunnel to 1250m's under the ground level going below the sea level. We explored how the mine harvested the iron ore in large haulers and using explosives. We followed the process of how they aim to reduce carbon emissions while still producing the most amount of iron in the EU. That evening we went for a long classic ski on a long flat 20km trail around the town. It was very chill and we got to essentially view all of Gallivare.
